Downstream Strategies conducts a range of science, policy, and management research related to water resources. Our watershed plans help prioritize subwatersheds and pollution sources, generate funding, identify data gaps, and ultimately restore and protect local waters. We also perform programmatic reviews of agency water programs. For example, an analysis of a statewide MS4 program will help small communities more efficiently and effectively implement stormwater programs, and a review of total maximum daily load implementation in two states will help agencies track success and target actions for greater impact. Our expert testimony and litigation support on NPDES permits, mining permits, and water pollution problems helps ensure that laws and regulations are implemented consistently.

In addition to analyses and reports, Downstream Strategies provides training and technical assistance for watershed organizations, permittees, and others on water-related issues. Team members have conducted workshops on construction, MS4, and industrial storm water permits; TMDLs; antidegradation; and public participation in NPDES permitting processes. |
