Muddy Creek Watershed-Based Plan

2009

A watershed is an area of land that drains into a river, stream, lake or wetland. We all live in a watershed.  Our watersheds provide water for drinking, irrigation and industry. Many people also enjoy lakes and streams for their beauty and for boating, fishing and swimming. (Source WVDEP, Link to the WVDEP information)

Everything that is done in a watershed affects the watershed's system.

What is a Watershed?

Why do a Watershed-Based Plan?

A watershed-based plan provides an opportunity for community members to get involved with cleaning up their watershed.  Muddy Creek has been studied by the WVDEP, this study concludes that some of Muddy Creek’s streams are impaired by fecal coliform.

Development of a watershed based plan will provide an opportunity for additional grants to be obtained to implement conservation practices on farms, conduct stream bank stabilization, fix failing septic systems, and other practices that help reduce pollution loads.

This plan will provide for a clean and sustainable future for the Muddy Creek Watershed community
